Die BVB besitzt 28 mehrteilige Fahrzeuge des Typs Combino von Siemens. Herstellerseitig ist auf den Fahrzeugen eine OnBoard-Spannungsversorgung durch drei auf dem Fahrzeugdach montierte Hilfs-Betriebe-Umrichter (HBU) der Firma Transtechnik (PTC, heute ABB) realisiert. Es handelt sich weitgehend noch um originale Geräte, die nun ersetzt werden müssen.
Daher erfolgt eine Ausschreibung für die Beschaffung einer neuen, passenden Generation.
