De sectie Genoomdiagnostiek van de afdeling Genetica van het UMC Utrecht is voornemens over te gaan tot de aanschaf van twee geautomatiseerde DNAisolatiesystemen. Deze aanschaf is noodzakelijk ter vervanging van de huidige apparatuur, die na zeven jaar intensief gebruik haar economische en technische levensduur heeft bereikt. De vervanging is urgent om de continuïteit van de zorgverlening te waarborgen.
De afgelopen jaren is de vraag naar genetische diagnostiek jaarlijks met 5 tot 10% toegenomen, terwijl genetische tests steeds vaker onderdeel uitmaken van de eerstelijnszorg. Hierdoor neemt de druk op de doorlooptijden toe. Een hoge beschikbaarheid (uptime) van de isolatiesystemen is daarom een kritische randvoorwaarde voor ononderbroken zorgverlening.
Recent opgetreden storingen in de huidige systemen hebben geleid tot vertragingen in de DNA-isolatie, wat risico’s in de zorgketen met zich meebrengt. Vervanging is derhalve noodzakelijk en niet uitstelbaar.
