Die Stadt Cuxhaven plant den Neubau einer vierzügigen Grundschule und einer Sporthalle mit zwei Hallenplätzen auf einem städtischen Grundstück in der Hermann-Allmers-Straße in Cuxhaven. Die Stadt Cuxhaven ist Trägerin der Grundschule "Gorch-Fock-Schule". Sie ist eine offene Ganztagsschule.
Die Grundschule ist zusammen mit einer Oberschule in einem gemeinsamen Gebäude untergebracht. Aus räumlichen Gründen hat die Stadt Cuxhaven entschieden, für die Grundschule einen Neubau zu errichten, in den sie nach Fertigstellung des Gebäudes umziehen wird. Der Neubau soll für eine vierzügige Grundschule als Ganztagsschule ausgelegt werden.
Das pädagogische Konzept soll im Zuge der Neubauplanung überarbeitet werden. Die vierzügige Schule soll für 400 Schülerinnen und Schüler konzipiert werden. Das Kollegium umfasst 22 Lehrkräfte, 18 Personen Pädagogisches Personal, zwei Schulsozialpädagoginnen, eine Schulverwaltungskraft und einen Hausmeister.
Auf demselben Grundstück in 27472 Cuxhaven, Hermann-Allmers-Straße befindet sich gegenwärtig eine Sporthalle, die Hermann-Allmers-Halle. Diese Halle ist abgängig und soll daher abgebrochen und durch einen Neubau mit zwei Hallenplätzen ersetzt werden.
