Um die Versorgungssicherheit für den elektrischen Zugbetrieb auch weiterhin in vollem Umfang zu gewährleisten, wird das Unterwerk (Uw) Waiblingen komplett erneuert. Das Unterwerk stellt eine Umspannerleistung von 2x 15 MVA zur Verfügung. Die 110-kV-Schaltanlage wird mit 2 Abzweigen in Hybridmodulbauweise errichtet.

Die 15-kV-Schaltanlage wird als luftisolierte, metallgeschottete Fabrikfertig-Typgeprüfte Schalt-anlage errichtet und mit 9 Abzweigen aufgebaut.
