Die beschleunigte Elektrifizierung der Eifelstrecken im Rahmen des Wiederaufbaus wird durch die Mitführung von 2x25 kV-Verbindungsleitungen als Teil der Oberleitungsanlage realisiert. Diese Art der Bahnstromversorgung ist im Vergleich zur Bahnstromversorgung mittels 110 kV Bahnstromleitungen und Unterwerken neuartig und im Energieversorgungsnetz der DB Energie bisher einzigartig. Bestandteil der beschleunigten Elektrifizierung der Eifelstrecken mit 2x25 kV Verbindungsleitungen ist die Planung und Errichtung unter anderem von der Netzkupplung Fischenich.
