Väylävirasto hankkii uusia pyörävoimailmaisimia rataverkolle. Pyörävoimailmaisimilla valvotaan rautatiekaluston rataan aiheuttamia kuormituksia. Tärkeimpiä valvottavia parametrejä ovat iskuvoimat ja ylikuormat.
Laitteiden tulee mitata myös muita parametrejä, kuten junien nopeuksia ja lämpötiloja. Tietoja hyödynnetään ensisijaisesti havaitsemaan viallinen tai väärin kuormattu kalusto. Tuloksia hyödynnetään myös muihin tarkoituksiin, kuten melu- ja tärinämittauksiin ja radan kuormitusten seurantaan.
