De vaargeul in de Westerschelde wordt beschermd door geulwanden met steenachtig materiaal om de scheepvaart te ondersteunen en afstand tot de primaire waterkering te behouden. Na de verruiming in 2011 is er erosie geconstateerd, waardoor de geulwanden instabiel zijn geworden en het risico op afschuiving toeneemt, vooral in het gebied Gat van Ossenisse II. De herstelwerkzaamheden omvatten het stabiliseren van de taluds met granulair materiaal, herstellen van de geulwandverdediging, en maatregelen om verdere erosie te voorkomen.
