Het conferentiegebouw op de JRC-Geel-locatie is bijna 50 jaar geleden gebouwd en heeft inmiddels het einde van zijn levensduur bereikt. Er is een grondige renovatiestrategie doorgevoerd die voldoet aan de huidige regelgeving, om de energie-efficiëntie te verbeteren en de faciliteiten te moderniseren. Daarnaast is er een uitbreiding voorgesteld waarin ruimte is voor diverse personeels- en sociale activiteiten, waardoor het hele gebouw wordt omgevormd tot multifunctionele ruimtes voor conferenties, opleidingen, evenementen, samenwerking en sociale bijeenkomsten.

Het betreft een proefproject in het kader van het New European Bauhaus.
