Het voorwerp van de opdracht betreft de renovatie van Home Fabiola, het aanpassen van de omgevingsaanleg, het bouwen van een nieuwe afvalberging en het renoveren van de bestaande huisbewaarders woning tot bewakingscentrale. Home Fabiola is een studentenhome op Campus Overpoort en telt vandaag 224 kamers. Het gebouw werd opgetrokken ca. 1960-1961 als eerste studentenhome van de Universiteit Gent.
Het gebouw kreeg nooit een grondige renovatie (met uitzondering van bepaalde delen van de gevels). Het gebouw wordt gerenoveerd omwille van bouwkundige degradatie, programmatorische redenen en tekortkomingen op vlak van technieken en energieprestatie. Home Fabiola is een middelhoogbouw met een BVO van ca. 7.800 m2 Tijdens de volledige duur van de werken is het gebouw onbewoond.
