Die BaFin nutzt verdeckte Testkäufe (Mystery Shopping,) als regelmäßige aufsichtliche Informationsquelle. Ziel der jeweiligen Mystery Shopping-Aktionen ist es, einen Eindruck von dem Umgang beaufsichtigter Institute und Unternehmen mit Privatkunden vor Ort sowie beim Online-Vertrieb zu erhalten, um so früh wie möglich problematische Entwicklungen im Zusammenhang mit verbraucherschutz-relevanten Sachverhalten feststellen zu können. Dabei sollen Informationen darüber erlangt werden, ob die durch die Auftraggeberin beaufsichtigten Institute und Unternehmen im Sinne des § 4 Abs. 1a Satz 2 FinDAG gegen einschlägiges Aufsichtsrecht (insbesondere verbraucherschutzrelevante Vorgaben) verstoßen.
