Meer dan 20 jaar geleden werd buurtwerk in Halle opgestart in de sociale woonwijk Windmoleken, de grootste sociale woonwijk van Halle. Om toegang te krijgen tot een sociale woning geldt een inkomensbegrenzing. In deze wijk wonen dan ook heel wat gezinnen die leven van vervangingsinkomsten en maatschappelijk kwetsbaar zijn.
Ook is er een grote diversiteit tussen de bewoners, wat het samenleven in harmonie niet steeds makkelijk maakt. Ondertussen is de buurtwerking uitgegroeid tot een volwaardige werking in Windmoleken en Vogelweelde, een beperkte werking in Buizingen en ondersteuning van buurtbouwers in Heuvelpark en Melkerijstraat. In totaal wordt dit door 3.5 VTE buurtwerkers opgenomen.
